Deadlines for absentee ballots is today by mail, Monday in person

The clock is ticking for registered voters to request absentee ballots for the Nov. 4 election, local election officials said Monday.Applications for absentee ballots must be postmarked by today or delivered to the appropriate Board of Elections in person by Monday, Oneida County Democratic Election Commissioner Angela Pedone Longo said.The ballots themselves must be postmarked by Monday as well, and received no more than a
week later, Herkimer County Republican Election Commissioner Marty Smith said.Both boards of election will have extended hours throughout the next week to accommodate last minute requests. The Oneida County Board of Elections will stay open until 7 p.m. today and Thursday, and until 5 p.m. Monday. It also will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.The Herkimer County Board of Elections will remain open until 7 p.m. Thursday and will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. According to the state Board of Elections’ Web site, registered voters may vote by absentee ballot if they are unavoidably absent from their county on Election Day, unable to appear at the polls due to illness or disability, a patient in a Veterans’ Administration hospital or detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in a prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony.
